At just six months old, it seemed like the adorable pup had no one in the world. So when it approached the gate to a military naval base, the young pup could have only hoped that whoever it encountered would be kind and help it.
Four-legged visitor
Fortunately, as the dog entered the military base, a US naval commander soon spotted him and immediately saw that a young dog alone in such a dangerous place would not survive for long.
Reminding himself of his unit's very apt motto: "Those who arrive alive, leave alive," the man quickly scooped up the puppy and took it to safety.
Word quickly spread about the puppy's arrival, and it wasn't long before everyone on the base wanted to meet the latest recruit.
Commander's companion
The puppy was named Griffon, and his adorable looks and fun personality earned a legion of fans all over the base.
As the commander took charge of Griffon's care, the pair quickly formed a strong bond with the puppy, who would follow him everywhere. The commander realised he couldn't leave the pup behind when he left the base.
So, he made a life-changing decision for both himself and Griffon. He decided to adopt the adorable dog and take him back on his next visit home. There, Griffon would stay with the commander's wife and children, who couldn't wait to meet the newest family member.
