Hi everyone

Has anyone here ever taken out a home insurance policy that includes home assistance for pets:

  • in case of illness

  • in case of hospitalisation

  • in the worst-case scenario, the owner passing away and a rehoming scheme?

Just to clarify, none of the pet insurance providers I've contacted cover this. If you know of any, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Hi everyone, I’m a vet student. Home insurance policies mainly cover third-party liability related to pets, not their day-to-day healthcare. However, some emergency assistance or ‘personal accident’ cover does provide for pet sitting or boarding if the owner is hospitalised. Do keep an eye on the small print: there’s usually a minimum hospital stay, a financial limit, and a restricted number of days. On the other hand, rehoming after a death is rarely guaranteed. It’s better to also have a trusted person in mind, leave written instructions, and potentially speak to a solicitor or an animal rescue. Always ask for the full terms and conditions in writing before taking out a policy.

    Best regards,

    Romane
