Dog sitters: watch out for their honesty

• An extremely disappointing experience. I strongly advise against using this boarding kennel.

We left our two dogs, Malo and Laka, for 8 nights while we were on holiday abroad.

After only 4 nights, the manager called me to say Malo had been crying and barking all night and she didn't want to keep him anymore. She then told me to sort it out and find someone to come and pick him up, even though we were out of the country!

We had to urgently arrange for a friend to pick up both dogs that same day. It was a particularly stressful and completely unexpected situation when you've entrusted your pets to a professional.

Even more worrying: the state of our dogs when they were collected.

The person who picked them up told us they seemed unusually lethargic and were off their food. However, both our dogs are usually very food-oriented!

Malo, who is perfectly house-trained, had also had an accident in the house, which normally never happens.

This unusual behaviour, combined with the crying and barking at night, makes us seriously question their well-being and the care they received. We don't know what caused this state, but these observations are very concerning.

To top it all off: we were charged around 410 for just 4 nights of care out of the 8 booked!

Despite the manager herself deciding not to keep Malo, she demanded full payment for the stay, effectively keeping about 205 for the 4 nights they weren't even there.

I find it unacceptable that a professional dog boarder would ask owners on holiday abroad to urgently arrange for their dog to be picked up, and then charge them for the entire stay.

The result: a ruined holiday, two dogs returned in a worrying state, an interrupted stay, and around 410 paid for 4 nights instead of 8.

I’m sharing this so other owners can make an informed decision before entrusting their pets to them.

As for me, I will never trust this establishment again.

Hi there, I’m so sorry to hear about the trouble you’ve had. You’re definitely doing the right thing by warning others about this boarding kennel. Depending on where you live, next time you could try contacting one of the vet schools to see if there are any students available to pet-sit your dogs. Best wishes, Laura
