In need of some advice

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice regarding my dog, Kira, and her three puppies, as I’ve found myself in a bit of a difficult situation.

I took Kira in back in July 2026, thinking she was a purebred Staffie. I eventually discovered she was actually a crossbreed. When I first got her, she was in an awful state: she was very underweight, had hardly any fur left on her ears or hindquarters, and was riddled with fleas. I’ve done my best to look after her and provide the care she needed.

At the time of the ownership transfer, I also found out she was pregnant, which was a complete shock.

Her three puppies will be two months old on the 28th of October 2026. I’ve already spent a lot of money caring for Kira and her babies, but I’m now struggling financially to cover the costs of microchipping, vaccinations, and the other necessary steps for the pups.

I really want to do things the right way and ensure their wellbeing, but unfortunately, I cannot afford everything on my own.

I’m looking for experienced dog owners who could advise me, point me towards potential solutions, and explain the steps I need to take in this situation.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this and offer some help, without judgement.

The easiest thing would be to contact the RSPCA to explain the situation. The puppies need to be taken in, get their vaccinations and microchipping sorted, and then find them a good home.

    Hi there,

It’s already so brave of you to have taken on Kira and her litter despite her poor condition and the surprise pregnancy. She is incredibly lucky to have found an owner like you.

Just so you know, there are charities and low-cost clinics that can help with vet bills for owners who are struggling. Websites for organisations such as the PDSA, Blue Cross, and the RSPCA provide a good summary of the different options available. I hope some of these listed solutions can help you. Some vets also accept interest-free payment plans, allowing you to pay in instalments. You could also try starting an online fundraiser.

    Best of luck,
    Best wishes,
    Laura
