Our Mini American Shepherd is 2 months and 10 days old.

He nips absolutely EVERYTHING, but we're trying to redirect him as much as possible.

At night, if he sleeps in the bed with us, he stays clean, but if we make him sleep on the floor, he needs to go to the toilet every two hours.

    Hi there, I’m a vet student. At just over two months old, mouthing and frequent night-time toilet breaks are still perfectly normal. Keep calmly redirecting the mouthing towards appropriate toys, rather than playing with your hands or using punishment. For the night, set up a cosy sleeping area near you and plan for very short, calm toilet breaks every two to three hours to start with. Give him plenty of praise when he does his business outside, and then gradually increase the time between outings as he gets older, without ever restricting his access to water. If he is urinating very frequently during the day too, drinking a lot, or seems uncomfortable, do mention it to your vet as soon as possible. Best regards, Romane

    If he needs to go out, just take him out—it won't last for long. Or you could let him sleep on the bed if you don’t mind.

    At his age, it’s completely normal for them to mouth everything. It’ll probably get more intense when he starts losing his baby teeth, but this phase passes too.
