There’s an Instagram account called ‘Perfect Paws’ that’s got all the info you could possibly need on the subject ^^
Hi there,
At 4 months old, the most important thing in my opinion is to gradually get him used to having his paws handled 😊 Even without any filing at first, you can touch his pads, hold each claw between your fingers, and run the file near him so he gets used to the noise.
Walks also help to wear the claws down naturally, especially on paths with slightly abrasive surfaces or tarmac. But it depends a lot on the dog, their posture, and the terrain you're on: some claws wear down more than others. You still need to keep a regular eye on them, though.
Most importantly, arm yourself with plenty of treats and patience so you don't have to force your dog: at this age, the goal is really to teach him the process.
