That’s the trouble with puppies who are a bit too bright: repeating the same commands over and over bores them incredibly quickly! Training needs to be turned into a bit of a brain game.
To do this, try combining mental stimulation with scent work; dogs love using their noses, and it tires them out three times more than a walk would. One example is the "Find it" training method.
