Canipattes: walk tracking and health records

Hi everyone,

A few months ago, I posted here about an app I was developing to track my dogs' walks. It's out now, so I'm back to give you an update, and this time you can try it for yourself.

My name's Jack, I live in the Charente region with Pattie and Tessy. Canipattes started from a simple need: I wanted to know if my dogs were getting enough exercise. All the apps I tried were about sports, calories and performance. None of them were about dogs.

What it does today:

Records the walk: GPS tracking, distance, duration, weather

A weekly goal specific to each dog, based on its size, age and breed. A Border Collie and a Pug don't have the same needs, and that's exactly the problem with running apps

A pet health record: vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, medications, weight, and a PDF export to show the vet

Photo memories linked to each walk

A community section: over 1,000 walking spots already listed in France, meet-ups between members, and a weekly leaderboard

About Premium, because I'd rather be upfront about it

There is a paid version, and I know the skepticism that can trigger. So here is exactly where it starts, and more importantly, where it doesn't.

What is free, with no limits or account required:

– Recording your walks. As many as you like, including the route. It's not a trial version that locks you out after ten outings.

– The health record: vaccinations, treatments, weigh-ins, with no entry limits.

– The PDF export of the record for the vet. This is perhaps the most useful feature of the app, and it's free — putting it behind a paywall would have been wrong.

– The whole Community: spots, meet-ups, friends, leaderboard, discussions, trophies. None of that costs anything.

What Premium adds is convenience: full walk history (the free version shows the last three), memories, automatic vaccination reminders, weight charts, dark mode, GPX export.

And one thing I won't sugar-coat: if you have more than one dog, you need Premium. It's the only real limit of the free version, and it affects me first since I have two. I stand by it because the server and the Community have to stay afloat, but I'd rather you found out here than when trying to add your second dog.

In other words: if you have one dog and want to track their walks and keep their health records, the app is free and will stay that way.

For everyone here, I've created a code: WAMIZ30 gives you 30 days of Premium (no credit card needed).

It's entered when you open the app, or from the paywall, under "I have a referral or promo code". Valid until 31st October.

It's on Android: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fr.canipattes.app

An iOS version is planned; there's a waiting list at canipattes.fr.

I'm the developer, so please feel free to be blunt: what you find clunky, what's missing, what's annoying you. That's how the latest version took shape.

Thanks for reading,

Jack, Pattie and Tessy

Hi there, As a vet student and a former dog owner, I think your app is a great initiative that could be really useful for many owners. It seems interesting, helpful, and well-designed. The pet health record section could potentially help with care when switching vets, as could other features (GPS tracking, activity monitoring, etc.). It’s completely understandable that there is a Premium version of the app, and the free tier seems very reasonable. Kind regards, MICHEL Laura
