Does a Staffie need a coat in winter?

Hi there, I’ve got a 6-month-old female Staffie.

I was wondering if it’s necessary to put a coat on her when it’s cold out?

I’ve often heard that Staffies really feel the cold and that you have to be careful.

That said, I don't want her to get too used to being wrapped up, but today for example it’s forecast to be -4°...

And if I do get her something, what should I go for? A fleece-lined windbreaker or a puffer jacket?

Cheers in advance

What do you actually know about dogs? And what are you doing for the homeless! Blimey, it’s just one of those nights!

Same for Newton. A lined raincoat.

Yeah, it’s exactly the same for them as it is for us – if the dog is just standing around or walking slowly, that’s it, they’ll catch a chill in no time.

He’s absolutely adorable, he’s got such a lovely square-jawed lad look! He probably isn't the easiest to train, but they’ve got so much character and personality, I love that. I’ll have to get my Jack a new coat for next winter because she’s bursting out of her current one. Usually she doesn’t feel the cold, but during those three days of freezing wind we had recently in the woods near Paris, she wasn’t doing too well. She’s got no undercoat and her chest and belly are so close to the ground; plus she doesn’t really run about, she’d much rather spend her time sniffing and tracking, so after an hour or so she was getting a bit chilly.

My mum’s had one for 14 years and we’ve never had any issues, except since he’s started getting older.

He’s going a bit deaf and is becoming a bit grumpy 😁

He’s absolutely adorable and doesn’t look silly at all 🙂 Thanks, it’s a nice change from the people I know with their “oh my god, good luck with your Jack” or the dog handler at my work... “Oh, a Jack? Er... no, there’s nothing you can do with those.”

I put a windbreaker on him with a warm fleece lining when it's below 5 degrees; otherwise, it's just the coat for the rain. Pets are just like us, and when it’s cold, mine especially isn't keen on going out, which I completely understand.

This one is quite good; I'm not sure if they'll have the size for your dog, but it's a nice one. Just be careful with the sizing—if yours is muscular with a broad chest like mine, the length might be spot on but it could be too tight around the neck, or vice versa. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00L46CPV6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

Just as an example, it's a bit of a squeeze around the neck and he's only 9 months old.

He looks adorable and not at all silly 🙂

I can confirm that, he picked up tracheitis three weeks ago and it costs next to nothing to sort out.
