Male dog and discharge from his penis

Hi everyone,

Our dog has been leaving stains everywhere for a while now!

Here’s the situation... He’s been getting these drops from his penis—sometimes they’re thick and yellow. Other times it’s a thinner yellow or even clear.

It’s getting really frustrating! It’s all over the place and I can’t tell you how hard the stains are to shift... Does anyone know what might be causing this? He’s fine in himself—peeing normally, and eating and drinking well. Some people say it’s normal... but he’s never done this before. We’ll definitely be taking him to the vet, but I’d love to hear about any similar experiences you might have had.

Thanks in advance ;)

Hi, I’ve got a large sighthound (he’s about 28 inches tall) and he’s having the same issue. It’s a bit of a nightmare really, as it leaves stains that are so tough to get out of the carpet. He’s 8 months old.

Hi everyone. Same with my two Boxers. I’ve stopped panicking about it now. They lick their willies after eating their wet food or gnawing on a bone that’s been lying around goodness knows where. Honestly, it must be a right breeding ground for germs in there... But that’s nature for you. If your dogs are acting like perfectly healthy pups, they’ll be just fine. At most, I give them some homeopathy, keep an eye on things, and... clean up.

Hi, I’ve got a male Boxer and he’s had this ever since he was a tiny pup. It’s thick and yellow; when I asked the vet about it when he was 3 months old, he told me it wasn't anything serious, that it was just like a bit of pus and he’d have it for the rest of his life. Sure enough, he’s 3 years old now and he’s still got it!

Dab it with a gauze pad on the glans and the opening of the sheath. After that, it’s best to see the vet for a course of antibiotics.

I want to clean the area while waiting for the vet appointment. I've read that Betadine can be used... do you know how?

Ah, right, I see. No, for mine it was just a bit of dampness from the urine, not really a proper drop. In that case, I’d still recommend seeing the vet because that sounds a bit odd to me...
