Looking for a female for breeding

I understand that you’re not doing this for profit. However, as a vet student, I’d like to advise you to be particularly careful before breeding your Dachshund, especially because he is blue.

The "blue" colour is a dilution of the coat colour and can be linked to dermatological issues in some dogs, specifically Colour Dilution Alopecia (which can lead to hair loss and skin problems). This doesn’t mean your dog is necessarily affected, but it’s something to consider before breeding him.

Beyond the colour, it’s really important to check his general health, his history, his pedigree if you have one, and the recommended health screenings for Dachshunds. The choice of the ***** should also be based primarily on her health and genetics, rather than just her appearance or colour.

You also have to keep in mind that breeding carries risks for the female: pregnancy, potential complications during whelping, C-sections, and risks to the puppies. Even if you aren't looking to make a profit, it’s important to ensure the litter is properly thought through and that you can handle any medical issues and the future of the puppies.

I’m not saying this to criticise, but simply because a litter—even an occasional one "for fun"—is something that needs to be well prepared. The best thing to do would be to discuss it with your vet to ensure you have the right support.
