Cold ears

Hi everyone

For the last three days, my 16-month-old dog has been really lethargic and her ears feel cold. She's drinking more than usual and just lies around all day.

She's still eating her wet food, but won't touch her dry food anymore.

So, maybe the best thing would be to give the vet a call anyway, just to see what they think at least? Even though I think it’s very likely she’s in heat, I can’t confirm it for you...

Yeah, I know, I was surprised as well. I moved three months ago and where I used to live, you could just pop in any afternoon without an appointment, but the three vet practices around here are strictly by appointment only. It looks like Hurka is doing better today; she’s drinking a bit less and is more in the mood to play with her friend Iniwa. She’s still not quite 100%, but to be fair, she’s coming to the end of her season. She acted a bit like this last time too, mainly because I don’t let her wander off wherever she wants on her own.

I agree with Kayouwiro; the vet, just like any other doctor, knows how to tell the difference between a situation that needs treating straight away and something that can wait. The vet will be the best person to give you answers on all of that. Best of luck to your little one, and keep us posted as soon as you have any news.

A vet who only takes appointments? That’s not ideal... Maybe you should try a different practice...

If I were you, I’d give them a ring and explain the situation (and how long it’s been going on). They’ll tell you if there’s anything you can do while waiting for an appointment (if it sounds minor to them), or to come in straight away. That’s how my vet works, anyway.

If they can’t fit you in for 10 days, go and see someone else.

Cheers, the trouble is you have to book an appointment around here; last time I had to wait 10 days.

The best thing to do would be to see a vet. A loss of appetite and the fact she’s drinking more are signs of an infection in dogs. Especially if she’s feeling a bit under the weather. It’s not necessarily anything serious, but it’s definitely better to get her checked out by a vet.
