My dog is skipping on her back legs

Hi everyone!

I’ve noticed for a while now that my little dog has been skipping on her back legs during our walks.

It reminds me a bit of how we used to skip when we were little girls.

At our last visit to the vet (back in September), she checked her paw pads and between her toes, but there was nothing there.

We’ve had another look ourselves and still nothing. I just don’t understand why she’s doing it.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I’m very familiar with this issue as I’ve got a Jack Russell myself—she’s my second one, actually. It’s a classic terrier trait, really; a slight misalignment in the lower spine that affects the back legs. Usually, an osteopath can just pop it back into place, and then you just have to make sure the dog rests for a bit so it stays put. Not exactly easy with a Jack! I’ve already had it sorted once, but I’ll have to take her in again because she’s started that little skipping walk again. It’s worth noting that it isn’t serious at all, and most of them live with this quirk their whole lives. However, getting it realigned will help prevent things like arthritis further down the line. So, you can either leave it be or get it seen to by a good osteopath. If you look closely at most terriers, you’ll notice that many of them have this little physical quirk.

I haven’t managed to get a video of my dog yet. It’s absolutely chucking it down here! As soon as it dries up, I’ll try to get one of her 😁

    No worries 😌

It’s just that I clicked the video icon and it’s asking for a "YouTube video address".

    I'll see how it goes

    Ok, no worries 😌

But to post a video on here, do we have to go through YouTube?

If you manage it, I’d love to see. I’ll let you know if mine does exactly the same thing ;)

No, I haven't got a video but I can try and film her during our walk later on.

Can they get "pins and needles" in their little paws?

I’m not sure about pins and needles myself...

Maybe she just feels like having a little hop around, like the girls do? ^^

It’s still a bit strange, though. It’s a relief to know she’s not the only one who does it.
