(My Aussie once devised a strategy if our walk in the woods hadn't lasted as long as he'd have liked: since refusing to obey would have gone against his principles as a model shepherd, he’d discreetly hide his ball as we approached the car park, certain that I’d ask him to go back and find it. He’d make sure to stay well away from the spot where he’d left it and take the opportunity to root around the bushes for an extra few minutes...)
