How to keep dressings in place after a spay?

Hi everyone,  /p>

My dog was spayed on Tuesday, 3rd May. I’ve already had to redo her dressings twice since then, once on Thursday, 5th May and again today, Friday, 6th May. I had to change them because they won’t stay put and keep exposing the wounds. It’s mainly because she’s moving around, but also because of sweat (since she was shaved for the surgery, my surgical tape isn’t sticking to her skin very well). Does anyone have any tips on how to get them to stay on better or for longer?  /p>

 /p>

I also noticed some slight bleeding on the dressings when I changed them — is that normal? I’m disinfecting the area every time I change the dressing.  /p>

 /p>

Thanks in advance for your advice. /p>

Yes, you can get recovery suits for dogs. Jazz had one when she had her op.

I was looking online for clothes for large dogs, and I was thinking that maybe some styles could help keep a dressing in place, a bit like those recovery suits for cats?

I’ve often had bandages from the vet that just won’t stay on, but after a chat with the chemist, I managed to find a solution that worked.

Hi there, At my vet's, post-op care is free. In these cases, I always take them back because their adhesive bandages hold much better than anything I manage to cobble together at home. Mind you, I know some vets just do standard bandages that don't stay on (speaking from experience with my first dog) and in that case... there’s no point going back, it just won’t hold. It’s worth checking with your vet to see what kind of dressing they use. For me, what works really well (at my current vet’s) is a sort of white dressing or tape stuck directly onto the tummy. It doesn't wrap all the way around the body. It’s all in one piece, not like the usual medical tape you're used to. I think you can get it at the chemist’s, but honestly, I don't know the name... It’s sticky all over, and they put gauze over the wound so it doesn’t stick to it.

Tie it by criss-crossing a really long crepe bandage—just ask for one at the chemist.
