His skin is turning black

Hi everyone!

I have a little 3-month-old Frenchie who joined our family just over a week ago.

The skin on his tummy has always been pink, a normal skin colour.

But since this morning, I've noticed that his skin has been gradually darkening until it turned grey. His whole lower belly is now grey.

His behaviour hasn't really changed; he’s quite mellow and sleeps a lot. He scratches at his collar because he’s still not used to it (or is it something else?).

He's our first dog, so I don’t know enough yet not to panic... I’ve called my vet, but they don't have any appointments until tomorrow!

What do you reckon? Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks in advance,

Morgane and Eliot

Honestly, Colombe!! Showing us your tummy just like that!?

I’d heard that spots appearing was a sign of a pedigree, though I don’t know if that’s actually true.

With this heat, I'm not surprised he’s a bit sluggish and sleeping a lot. My Jack Russell is usually very, very active, but at the moment, with the weather, she’s sleeping much more and is quite flat. As for the collar, he’s probably just not used to it yet, which is why he’s scratching. On the other hand, don't leave the collar on indoors; it can cause permanent marks after a while.

Hi there, Don't worry, it's perfectly normal. When the seasons change, some dogs' skin turns darker. My Chihuahua used to have white skin, but it's black now. My Jack Russell has a few spots, but her skin hasn't gone completely black. Channel's skin hasn't changed at all, though. It's just pigmentation, so there’s no need to head to the vet.
