Surgery for an elderly dog

Hi everyone, I’m really worried. My dog is having surgery tomorrow; she’s 15 years and 10 days old (she’s a small dog, about 14 lbs). It’s for a tumour that has ruptured on her back, just above her right leg. The operation should take about twenty minutes; the vet will remove the growth, stitch her up, and then the stitches will come out 15 days later. What scares me most is the anaesthetic and the thought that she might never wake up. Has anyone else been through surgery with an older dog? How did it go?

Just a quick update to give you all some news,

My sweet Didine has crossed the Rainbow Bridge 🌟

She didn't cope well with the aftermath and was starting to have so many issues (loss of balance, bleeding from her vulva). In the end, I had to make the hardest decision....

That's brilliant, give the little one a stroke and rest up well.

Everything went well. I’m actually surprised by my girl, she’s doing brilliantly. She’s got a bit of a scar to show for it now, but honestly, for a dog who’s never left home, being in a strange place with people she didn't know didn't faze her at all. She must have realised it was for her own good. It’s such a relief 😁

We’ll have to see how the next few days go, but for now she’s doing great.

Hang in there, it’ll be okay... the vets are used to this sort of thing and they’ll be really careful... keep us posted.

My girl was spayed quite young—she was only 18 months old—but she’s epileptic, so they were extra cautious. I was panicking like mad, to be honest! They just monitored her a bit more closely while she was coming round from the anaesthetic and everything went perfectly well..
