My dog swallowed a piece of a foam ball

@Sky "you-know-who" scoffed one of my favourite tops during his first few months settling in.
It was a vest top with an embroidered panel on the front. I get home and see the embroidered bit sitting on the dog’s beanbag, in perfect condition, the edges perfectly intact, but WITHOUT the rest of the top that was supposed to be around it 😯
The kind of moment where your brain just short-circuits for a few seconds... "hang on, why is this panel not on the top anymore?! Where's the rest of the top?!"
Well, it was in the stomach of the silly little nutcase :-)
I panicked a bit and kept a close eye on him, but it came back out "good as new" (well, in a manner of speaking LOL).
Good as new, just covered in a bit of "organic matter", you know. I’ll be honest, I didn't have the stomach to try and sew it back together XD
Like Tintin in the Congo, you mean? 🙄
Lol, since I was told we could have a bit of banter. 😁
Mind you, I was still wondering, because when I posted my message, the "back then" was actually less than 24 hours ago, and I’m not sure if everything passes that quickly...? 🤷
And it would’ve been nice to know that it came out okay, if that is indeed why the OP left, just to get the (happy?) ending to the story; if the OP ever comes back to let us know how it turned out, that would be great and it might reassure any new owners who find themselves asking the same question in the future. 🙂
(and just to labour the point slightly 😏, I can well imagine the type of foam balls they might be, but you never know: there are different materials and foam densities, like a very tight, dense foam—I've actually seen it in some dog toys; it might not pass as easily or with as little trouble as the foam I suspect we're all picturing... that's why even without panicking, it doesn't cost anything to stay vigilant; it's the kind of case where it's definitely better to be safe than sorry... 😳)
(and no, I didn't say it hadn't been mentioned, why do people always attribute motives to others when there’s no reason to 😒)
@Mel, blimey, a whole tea towel!!! That's no small thing, it can't have been easy to swallow even for a dog the size of a Dogo Argentino, lucky it passed on its own... He was certainly determined to swallow that! You must have been in total shock when you discovered "the evidence" at the time! 🤪
After grain-free food, maybe we could give mousse a go ^^
Li Lou, keep searching, you’re bound to find an article on a vet’s website.
Break's over for me, I'm heading back to work.
Chicken thighs are really good.

There you go.
Of course, a puppy will eat just about anything.
I'm with Li_lou. Puppies swallow all sorts, and not just things they're supposed to eat...
If we panicked and rushed to the vet every time they swallowed something they shouldn't, we'd never be away from the surgery!
Of course, things can always go wrong. Things can even go wrong without them swallowing a bit of foam. If you look for horror stories online, you’ll always find them.
That said, for a 22 lb (roughly 1.5 stone) puppy, a tiny 1x3cm piece of foam is most likely to just pass through on its own.
And as for keeping an eye on them, everyone’s already suggested that from the off. Since the OP is worried, I don't think we need to tell them to keep watch; they're clearly already doing it.
You’d be amazed at what a puppy can swallow and then pass!
The most impressive thing I’ve seen was with my Dogo Argentino. He must have been about 2 and a half to 3 stone at the time and he pooped out an entire tea towel! ^^ I had no idea he’d even eaten it; it was quite the surprise when it came out the other end.
Now, if I’d known he’d swallowed that, I would have been worried sick, and we were lucky it came out without any issues. But that's a world away from a tiny 1x3cm bit of foam.
Mind you, you really do have to be careful with dogs that have a habit of swallowing things. It's dangerous.
My Dogo was one of those; in the heat of play, he’d gulp down anything, so I had to make sure I chose toys he couldn't possibly swallow.
