Husky/Samoyed crossbreed?

Hi everyone,

As the title suggests, I’m looking into the Husky/Samoyed crossbreed.

Over the last few months, I’ve been seeing loads of adverts for this mix, with puppies being sold at the same prices as KC-registered pedigree dogs. Of course, the photos are always adorable, but puppies always are when they're small, aren't they?

So, I was wondering:

- What do they look like as adults? (If you have any photos, I’d love to see them!)

- What’s their temperament like? (Even though every dog is unique, there must be some common traits.)

- Considering the risks of PRA, corneal dystrophy, and cataracts in Huskies, and hip dysplasia in Samoyeds, what’s the health outlook for these dogs?

The adverts are for puppies sold by 'pros' (well, registered as such on the site, anyway).

If any owners of this crossbreed are on this thread, please feel free to introduce your fur babies!

A husky is first and foremost a working dog, just like a Samoyed. Don’t kid yourself – these kinds of crosses are certainly stunning, but if you’re not the ultra-sporty type, you've got no chance. Two ultra-active breeds aren’t going to produce a couch potato.

Hi, they’re a cross between two Nordic breeds from the area formerly known as Lapland. I’ve seen a few near the Russian border and, from those I’ve come across, they looked just like their mothers. They’re used in sled teams and keep the same traits: they need to live in a pack, have bags of energy, and can be ‘challenging’ dogs if you don’t know the breed well. I can understand it in a sledding context, but the ‘breeders’ I’ve spotted are selling them as pets :/ So is it just for the look? Is it just a fad?

I don’t really get the point of these crosses. A long-haired Husky? A blue-eyed Samoyed? It feels like it’s just about looks to me. What exactly are they after with this mix? A cute teddy bear or a racing machine? Which do you prefer, the Husky or the Samoyed?
