My 10-year-old dog passed away last night. Two weeks ago, he was treated for a severe ear infection; the vet prescribed Dermipred 20 (one tablet morning and night for five days, then half a tablet morning and night for 10 days). On the very evening the treatment finished, Wednesday 24th October, he started panting and couldn't put any weight on his front left leg. We took him to the vet on Thursday 25th October. He was diagnosed with muscle weakness in his leg. The vet put him on a drip, supposedly to help with the pain. On the Friday, he decided to do an X-ray. We went in to see him and, to our shock, he couldn't stand on his legs at all and started urinating on himself. We left him there for the X-ray, but an hour later the vet called to tell us he had died. Granted, he was old and had arthritis, but today we're wondering if the Dermipred was responsible for his health deteriorating so quickly and ultimately for his death.
Did cortisone kill my dog?

Thanks Mjdino for such a lovely message. And yes, he’s got such a cute face, this pooch!

That was such a lovely, heartfelt message and video, full of kindness and love; everyone here was very moved and joins me in thanking you, Enicia.
You weren’t with your Snoopy for very long – three years is such a short time – but you should take comfort in knowing he had the best years of his life with you. He finally got to experience all the things he’d been missing, all thanks to you. 🙂
Hi Bille de verre, your messages are doing me the world of good, you’ve no idea how much. Anyway, I thought I’d give you an update after our visit to the local rescue centre in Saintes: well, we’ve gone and fallen for a lovely one-year-old Labrador. Honestly, seeing all those poor souls locked away like that is heartbreaking. He’s certainly a big change from our old boy, though; he’s very lively! But that doesn’t mean I’m forgetting my Dino. When you’re ready, I really think you should get another one—you shouldn’t be left alone with only sad thoughts for company.
Good evening,
I’m so glad to see you’re feeling better and that you’ve brought some joy to a pooch who really needed it.
I’ve also reached a bit of a turning point since last night, and I can finally smile again when I think of my Siska. Don’t worry, I don’t live alone and I have a very full life, but these last seven days have been devastating—which is only natural. I’m still blaming myself for not spending enough time with my little girl over the last few weeks because I was so busy, even if I did keep her right by my side towards the end. Never mind the accidents; I constantly had a mop in my hand... not to mention having to wash her bedding all the time, and her as well.
I have too much work and too many commitments outside of work at the moment to properly welcome a new little companion, and I don’t feel ready for it just yet anyway, even if I can’t imagine life without a lively four-legged friend in the house.
Have you brought him home yet? Is he busy sniffing every inch of his new territory? Is he already giving you a big welcome? At a year old, I think he’ll soon move on from his past troubles. Will you send us some photos? What are you going to call the little Lab?
🙂
