I’m thinking of getting a Dobermann from a breeder in Serbia. I would have preferred to find one here in the UK, but I really want him to have that classic Dobermann look... so I’m leaning towards Serbia instead.
Has anyone ever imported a pup from there before? Does anyone have a recommendation or a specific breeder’s details?
Cheers!

Hi everyone, I might be joining this discussion a bit late. As a former Dobermann owner and a breeder myself, I’d strongly advise against using Belic House. I had a really bad experience; my amazing girl had dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and passed away at just 18 months old. The breeder claims they aren't responsible, even though everyone knows that if the dogs are properly health-tested, there shouldn't be an issue. Despite reaching out to him through his French importer, I haven't had any response, no offer of a resolution, and not even a word of sympathy. Best regards, MB – they’ll recognise me. The dog’s name was Farah.
@Razzak Khal Hi there, this thread hasn’t been active for quite some time now.
Another user had already raised the issue regarding some of the breeding lines used by this breeder. Essentially, whether you’re importing a puppy or buying one from a breeder who has bred them here in the UK, you have to be extremely vigilant about the bloodlines and the DCM screening history.
Stay strong with your boy. DCM involves some heart-breaking choices; any sign of suffering that medication can’t ease must be taken seriously. Even though it’s incredibly tough.
Hi everyone, whatever you do, DO NOT buy a puppy from Black Cartel. Having done it myself, I can tell you these dogs are unsocialised and potentially very ill. Mine has Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). For anyone who’s skeptical, you can get in touch with me (Razzak Khal on Facebook); I’ve got all the screenshots needed to talk you out of it. That is, unless you’re prepared to pay for heart scans for the rest of your dog’s life (around £130 per scan) and Vetmedin, which will set you back between £50 and £100 a month depending on how well it works for your dog.
I have to admit, £1,700 for an Aussie is very steep, unless they come from an absolutely flawless and exceptional bloodline!
As for Dobermanns, over in France the minimum is around £750, going up to £1,000 or £1,300 depending on the pedigree. Importing a dog comes with extra costs, so it adds up...
