Hi everyone, \/p>

So basically, this Tuesday my parents bought a puppy, a little Yorkie, but we already have a 5-year-old Brittany Spaniel. At first, he seemed scared of young Mya, who just wanted to play, but he was only growling at her whenever she got a bit too close. However, this morning, my dog tried to bite the puppy twice when she approached him... My dog isn't usually aggressive at all; he actually gets on really well with his hunting mates. I don't want to leave the puppy alone or risk her getting snapped at by my dog. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? \/p>

If your Spaniel had wanted to kill him, he would have done it by now. He’ll only be “aggressive” depending on how persistent your Yorkie is, and I reckon the Yorkie is well aware of the potential danger if he pushes his luck too much.

Thanks for your replies, but I’m worried that if my dog were to actually bite the puppy, he could kill him, couldn’t he? After all, he’s only a tiny Yorkie puppy; against an adult spaniel, I doubt he’d stand much of a chance...

Hi there, I completely agree with @Provéto.

Everything is perfectly normal, so just let them get on with it ;)

Hi there, Your dogs are behaving perfectly normally. When the puppy wants to play, your dog is simply explaining that he's not in the mood by growling at him. If the puppy doesn't take the hint, it's quite normal for your dog to take things a step further with a corrective nip. He’s likely just trying to set some boundaries without actually hurting him. Don't try to get between them; I'm sure they'll have it sorted out in no time. Don't forget to give both dogs plenty of attention. Let them get to know each other and figure things out on neutral ground (on a walk, for example). Don't worry, your dogs will be getting along famously before long. Hope this helps. Roxane
