Hi everyone,

How can I encourage my dog, a 16-month-old Malinois, to go into his kennel and actually stay there, especially when it's raining and we're not around? He'll go in if we throw some dry food inside, and we tell him to 'stay', but it doesn't last for long. I built the kennel myself and he watched the whole construction process, so it's not like it's something unfamiliar to him.

Many thanks! 👏

Well, you need to put some treats in there and get him used to being in it as often as possible; he needs to see it as his own quiet spot for some peace and rest. For that to work, he has to spend time there and it needs to be comfy, with a blanket or a nice mat, toys, and so on...

Thanks a lot, but that’s exactly what I’ve been doing: I keep finding the mat out on the lawn because he’s busy playing with it, the treats are gobbled up in no time, and he just drags the toys out... He prefers staying behind the front door (which leads to the garden). It’s tough going!
