A Frengle?

Hello!

I’m looking for some information on Beagle\/French Bulldog crosses, also known as Frengles.

I’m looking to adopt (definitely not buy) a young dog or a puppy, but I’ve got no experience at all as I’ve never had a dog before... My partner, on the other hand, has always had them since he was a kid. He loves Labs and Goldens, whereas I prefer smaller dogs like Jack Russells (Parsons too, even if they’re a bit bigger) and Beagles.
What puts me off Jack Russells is that they’re very active and tend to get into a lot of mischief in general... We both love Beagles, but then a mutual friend introduced us to his puppy: a male Frengle. He’s so cute with his fawn coat and brown eyes... We thought he was absolutely adorable. My friend mentioned that his dog still gets into quite a bit of trouble, licks everyone—even strangers (including babies and kids)—and jumps up on the bed and the sofa. But he did say it’s his own fault because he wasn't firm enough with him right from the start. (He got him when he was two or three months old, and he’s nearly 6 now).

So, I’ve got a few questions:

In terms of personality and behaviour, does a Frengle take more after the Beagle or the Frenchie?
Are they generally quite active or more on the lazy side?
If they’re well-trained, do they still get into a lot of mischief?
Is it better to adopt a puppy (3 or 4 months old) or a younger dog (2 years or even older)?
Is it better to get a male or a female?
Have any of you owned or known a Frengle before?

Since my friend didn’t want me posting a photo of his dog, I’m sharing a picture of a Frengle I found online that looks just like his:

Thanks in advance! ––\/p>

Looking for a KC registered Chihuahua stud for my KC registered female Pyrenean Mountain Dog (stepladder provided). 😈

A mini Pyrenean would be so cute! Mind you, it would probably just end up looking like some sort of Bichon, and it wouldn't be much use for guarding the flock—the wolves would be laughing their heads off! ^^

Yes @Wiegehts, I’d never turn away any animal, whatever it may be; in fact, I hope to adopt a crossbreed one day through a rescue... One day, maybe 😁 I’d heard of these breeds on social media, like on FB with the "miniature husky" where people comment "I waaaaant him ❤️❤️❤️", but I never imagined there were actually breeders over here 😯 and unfortunately, these breeders are so popular that there are long waiting lists... And people are still paying thousands of pounds for a crossbreed... It’s all about the money, as you say... @Kikaah, I honestly can’t believe it 😯 so what, a mix of several trendy breeds goes for £5,000 while we're at it? 😯 @Patou, I’m sure if you post an advert, you’ll get plenty of offers for the "handsomest" male Chihuahuas; I can't even imagine what the puppies would look like 👎 Anyway, I hope the OP finds happiness at a rescue centre!

    Hi there,

It’s often better to adopt an adult dog, or even a senior! Especially if you aren’t home all the time (due to work, etc.). Think about an adult dog who is already house-trained and past that destructive phase. While a senior dog might not be a hyper little thing zooming around the house, they bring so many other qualities, like being mellow and wise! Bear in mind that a six-week-old puppy needs to be let out every two hours!

A dog is a living being that will be with you for years! You shouldn’t get one just because you’ve fallen in love at first sight. You need to do your research and speak with several local animal rescues or breeders if you’re looking to adopt. We don’t adopt a dog just because it’s cute; we adopt because we’re certain they’ll be happy with us and that, no matter what happens, they won't end up back at the shelter because we’ve had second thoughts! A dog from a rescue often has a difficult past that they can move on from if you give them the love they need and dream of. For your sake and the dog's, please think carefully about your choice and consider your future!

    Hope this helps!

    Best regards

Hi everyone, just popping in quickly because this post got me curious to see if Labradoodle and Pomsky breeders actually existed in France... It’s enough to make you sick... Anyone want a little crossbreed for £2,500? (Don't worry, the Husky and the Pomeranian are Kennel Club registered, so "product quality" is guaranteed). I honestly can’t believe it, I never expected to find that 😯 It made me want to have a look on Gumtree, and speaking of Pomskies, I quote: "Pomskies, or miniature huskies, were created by Americans about ten years ago… they are designer dogs, meaning a cross between two purebred dogs. Still not very common in France, they remain rare which justifies the high price tag." Don't be fooled, it's just a crossbreed; the way they see it, every mongrel out there could be worth £2,500 😅

@Rodents, it’s all the rage now to offer crosses between two recognised breeds. The US was one of the first to start this kind of problematic trend. Thankfully, the OP has been very realistic about the underlying issue here. Crossing dogs with no regard for their original temperaments can lead to behavioural problems or genetic health issues. Given we already have enough trouble with certain breeds that have become very fragile, deliberately breeding crosses is just madness. It’s one thing when mongrels, mutts or mixed-breeds are born—that’s often unplanned and managed more or less well by the owners (though some put in a huge amount of effort, you only have to read @Lorna’s story about when she adopted her dog!). It varies, and we shouldn’t look down on these dogs. Where it gets dodgy is when people try to line their pockets by intentionally breeding crosses and selling them for a fortune, using their "rarity" as a selling point on top of everything else...

We’ve got a 'Boxterrier' here ;-) An incredibly rare breed. Haha, 'I want one!' 😁 For some German mud wrestling! Any other fans of 'humorous' crossbreeds out there?? There are some that don't make me laugh at all, like an ad I saw recently from a pro breeder for a Malamute x Czech Wolfdog. It’s more tragic than funny... A 'Mala-Czech'?? This is what happens when greed and negligence meet... I also saw ads a few years back for a Staffie x Wolfdog x ? cross, being sold by a dog trainer who was all too happy to be flogging such ticking time bombs...
