The breeder advised us to put him in a puppy pen at night, which we've started doing, but I feel like he absolutely hates it and barks as soon as we shut him in. At first, I thought it was because he was lonely, but I've noticed that when he's outside of his pen and we're in another room or further away, he doesn't react or whine at all.

So, I actually have a career plan that’s similar to your current job. Specifically, going back to my old line of work in private security with a dog. I’d kept this to myself and only mentioned it to a few people, including the psychopath mentioned above who, just because I had a row with one of her mates, decided to blab this personal information publicly on the forum. That’s all there is to it!
Besides, two of my dogs are Belgian Malinois, but since I’ve already shared photos of them on here, confusing them with yours (a Dutch Shepherd, I believe?) is either down to poor eyesight or total bad faith.
We’re also in the same age bracket and have the "misfortune" of justifying our answers with plenty of long sentences, so @AlfredW thought, "Ooh, it must be Wie in disguise!" 🙄

The majority of members on this forum are lovely, and even when people have opposing views, it usually stays quite good-natured. However, there are a few individuals who only come here to push their own agenda, pick fights, or manipulate others. As you’ve already noticed, you’ve been on the receiving end of it despite having only just joined.
I’ve actually stepped back from the site a bit to avoid the drama and I only really pop in to mock this childish behaviour, but tonight I felt it was important to set the record straight.
