Hello,

We've just adopted a little 2-month-old Australian Shepherd puppy.

We bought the same brand the breeder was using (Eukanuba),

but my puppy isn't eating much at all.

I've tried mixing in a bit of chicken but he just picks through it. I also tried soaking the dry food with some water, but still nothing.

What should I do?

Thanks for your help.

Purizon and Orijen are for cats, aren't they?

If you want a bit of advice, just leave plenty of food out for your puppy; they’ll eat until they’re full. If your pup is only 8 weeks old, you should really be focusing on their socialisation. If you want a perfectly behaved dog with no future behavioural issues, feel free to drop me a PM.

He weighs about 13 lbs at 2 months old.

We’re feeding him the amount recommended on the back of the dry food bag and following the advice from the person we got him from.

    Is that too much?

Otherwise, try doing a gradual transition to a better quality dry food with a higher protein content and no grain, like Purizon or Orijen... it’s better for his health, and he might prefer it.

Evening! If I've understood correctly, are you feeding him 300g of dry food a day? If that's the case, it’s no wonder he’s only eating a quarter of it—that’s just a bit less than what my adult dog eats, and he weighs about 60 lbs (roughly 4 stone 4 lbs). For a puppy that size, it should be somewhere around 100–120g a day in total.

We give him 100g per meal, three times a day.

He's never finished his bowl, and as of today he’s only eating a quarter of it.

What do you mean by 'very little'? Your puppy is still very young, so it’s completely normal that they aren’t eating huge amounts. Try splitting their food into three meals a day; it’s much better for them at this age.
