Red nose sold as an AmStaff

I’m completely lost: Can a red nose puppy (aren’t they banned here in the UK?) be KC registered with fully pedigree parents?

It seems totally impossible to me, but I’m looking for some expert advice 🙄

And have any of you ever seen a red nose listed as an American Staffordshire Terrier on its paperwork (health record, microchip info, etc.)?

Thanks in advance!

    Hi there,

If the parents are Kennel Club registered and the litter has been officially recorded, he will have his pedigree papers. This means he'll be a pedigree American Staff rather than a 'type' (so an AmStaff, not a Pit Bull). However, if he doesn't meet the breed standards for breeding, you must not breed from him. I’m afraid I can’t really help you with how the dog might be categorised under the law, though.

Thanks for the reply! Is it normal for the puppy to be registered as an American Staff on his paperwork when he isn’t actually an Amstaff, but a 100% Red Nose – basically a Pit Bull? He’s got a liver-coloured coat with a light nose and yellowish-green eyes. Aren't Red Noses banned in France?

You should get in touch with The Kennel Club for more information.

What you need to check is what's written on the dog’s paperwork :)

The puppies won’t be eligible for breed certification. The ‘red nose’ variety of Staffy isn’t eligible for certification, but the fact remains that once a dog is on the pedigree register, it stays there for life (it has what’s called ‘initial registration’). Puppies born ‘red nose’ from pedigree parents will be registered but won’t be eligible for certification. As a rule, red noses aren't supposed to be used for breeding.
