Hi everyone, this might be a bit of a daft question, but I’d like to get some confirmation.

Basically, a friend of mine is expecting a litter of American Staffy cross Rottweiler pups. Since both breeds are restricted and have to be registered, will the puppies need to be as well, or will they just be classed as mixed breeds?

That’s quite a mix! I wonder what the point of that crossbreed was, in terms of the breed, health, and so on—were all the proper precautions taken? These would be classed as restricted breeds, which means you shouldn't just sell these puppies to the first person who comes along; they need a committed owner who's willing to deal with all the legal requirements—someone experienced and responsible. And as for putting just anything on the health record, it only takes one incident and you’re risking the dog’s life.

Either way, I wouldn't take the risk if I were you. Owning a banned breed is a massive hassle in your day-to-day life.

Hi. Either way, two strong-willed breeds like that are going to result in a pup with a big personality 😉. Which one is the mum? The Rottie or the Amstaff? If they take after the Rottie they’ll be subject to certain breed restrictions, but if they look like a Pitbull type they’ll be classed as a restricted breed under the Dangerous Dogs Act, meaning they’d have to be neutered or spayed.

Hi, It all depends on their build... and what the vet puts in their vaccination records! In theory, yes, they should be categorised, but in practice, plenty of dogs (and owners) manage to dodge the law one way or another – you only have to look at the sheer number of ads popping up everywhere...
