Lump on the ear

Hi everyone,

I'm posting because I'm feeling a bit stressed after finding a small lump on my cat's ear; she hasn't got any others. I don't know if it's a bite or something else, and I'm quite worried! I'm sending the photo to my vet tomorrow morning, but in the meantime, I'd love to get your thoughts.

Have a lovely evening.

Hi there, my cat has the same lump but ten times the size. My vet told me that we shouldn't touch it for the time being, as long as the cat isn't scratching it or it isn't bothering them. My cat is fit and well, so I'm not overly worried. According to the vet, it's likely a cyst; it's growing steadily, so it's a case of keeping an eye on it, and then I'll be heading back to the vet to have it removed – just a minor operation.

Hi Audrey, Bayard had a lump on his ear, as you might have seen. The vet gave me some antibiotics for it at first, but then told me he could live with it. However, after nine months, it had become huge and was pressing on his throat, which meant he couldn't eat his dry food anymore. I ended up having to hand-feed him and stop the kibble altogether! Bayard was struggling so much that I eventually decided I couldn't let him suffer like that; he could hardly eat a thing. It’s been a year since he passed away now, and we still miss him so much. I’d love to get another dog, but I’m scared I’ll just end up comparing them to Bayard. He was a rescue from the RSPCA and we were so attached to him. Definitely keep an eye on the size of your cat's lump, but as long as it isn't affecting any vital organs or functions, he should be fine. Wishing you all the best, and give him a big cuddle for me.

Hi there, that's the thing with this forum – people post asking for advice or for shared experiences, but then they don't bother coming back to share the vet's diagnosis or an update on how things are going. I hope someone can get back to you with an answer soon.

Hi there, My cat has the same little lumps. I've spoken to the vet and for now we're trying a soothing cream. However, I'm worried because more lumps keep appearing. Did you ever find a solution? I noticed your post is from a year ago. Thanks, Audrey

My 14-year-old Beagle has developed a large lump under his ear. The vet gave me some antibiotics and took a photo, but didn't even examine the ear properly. It’s got bigger since then, but he isn't in any pain and is eating really well. However, he has a heart murmur and I don't want him going under the knife at his age. Plus, we got him from a rescue centre when he was 3 and we can't have anyone over because he’s bitten my husband several times. The rescue wouldn't take him back at the time, so we kept him as we’ve grown so attached to him—even my husband. I'm the one who takes him to the vet, which isn't easy! I’ve also just noticed that one of his dewclaws has grown into his paw a bit. Can I cut it in the middle? I've bought the right pair of clippers, could you please let me know?

No, I’d be surprised if a bump came from a fight, as she’d have scratches if it was that. It’s probably just a mosquito that’s got in and bitten her. The best thing to do is see a vet.

https://wamiz.com/forum/bouton-sur-l-oreille-chat-105430.html#1754642 I’ve just put up a post with a photo of her ear... she hasn't been outside for about ten days because she's just had surgery, so there’s no way she's been in a fight, and that’s why I’m so worried.

It’s probably an insect bite. Does he go outside? If there’s only one spot, no scratching and nothing else, it’s likely that. But the best thing to do is see a vet if it hasn’t cleared up in a few days.
