Hi everyone, Macaron, who is a year and a half old, was neutered on Friday.

I picked him up at 4 pm and he was still a bit woozy. The vet told me not to give him any dry food that evening because he’d been sick right after the operation.

So when I noticed yesterday that he hadn't done his usual business, I wasn't too worried since he hadn't eaten at all on Friday.

His last poo was on Thursday night before heading to the vet’s, and he hadn't eaten since 8 pm on Thursday as the vet requested. Since yesterday, he's been eating normally again, but he still hasn't gone today. I'm not sure if it’s been 2 or 3 days now, or if he might have gone while he was at the vet's on Friday.

I'm starting to get a bit concerned. He’s been to the tray several times for a wee without any issues, but the litter tray has stayed clean (no poos) since he got back from the vet's. Behaviour-wise, there’s not much change, except he is licking his nether regions a lot more than before...

I’m not sure what to do. I think if there’s no change overnight, I’ll call the vet tomorrow, but I’d love to hear your thoughts.

My broadband was down so I couldn't reply, but yes, after a few days he finally did his business! He just wanted his own litter tray and his usual grit, the daft thing! He wasn't having any of the vet's lead.

My kitten has just been neutered; he’s nearly 5 months old. He hasn't done a poo for 2 days now, what should I do?

Evening! Yes, finally – I found a poo when I got home from work at lunchtime. Phew, what a relief. It was more of a scare than anything else in the end. I wasn't exactly keen on calling the vet either, as he hasn't stopped trying to push that Pro Plan dry food on me ever since the little guy's op... Anyway, thanks a lot for the replies. Have a good evening! 👋

    Hi there,

    Any news?

I totally understand your anxiety... we worry about our fur babies so easily!

If there’s still no poo this morning, you could give the vet a ring; it’s all part of the post-op follow-up.

    Keep us posted, thanks!

That’s a relief then. Yes, for now he’s eating, he hasn’t been sick and he’s using his litter tray, but only for a wee. I’ll keep a close eye on him as soon as he goes...

Hi, as long as he isn’t going to his litter tray for no reason, I don’t see anything to worry about for now. He’d been fasted, plus he was sick at the vet’s and hasn't had any food since coming home from being neutered. You’ve got to give his system a bit of time to get moving again. I reckon you can wait a bit longer without any issues, unless of course he starts straining to have a poo, or if he’s sick, stops eating, and so on.
