Stopping my kitten from going under the bed.

I'm back again! 😁

I’m having a bit of a nightmare with my kitten, Marley – he’s constantly going under my bed!

If only he’d behave, but no! 😈

He crawls under the bed, gets onto his back and hooks his claws into the bed base, then runs along upside down!! It’s hard to imagine, I know, but he’s wrecking the whole base, both underneath and on the sides.

The bed isn’t mine, and he knows it drives me up the wall! 😡

He’s got his cat tree right next to the bed, and I can’t put him in another room because I live in a studio flat.

At the moment, I’ve tried putting towels underneath and a fitted sheet over the sides.

I’ve even tried stuffing duvets under there, but that won't last long because he keeps finding ways to push them out of the way 😠

Does anyone have any ideas or advice?

I’ve tried punishing him:

- Scruffing him and hissing at him like a cat... he couldn't care less.

- Pinning him to the floor (not hard, just so he gets the point), but he just attacks me as soon as I let go.

- Using a water spray... he doesn't give a toss, he thinks it's a game!

- Putting him in another room, but he’s not bothered by that either.

Nothing works! I know he’s only a kitten, but that’s no excuse to let him destroy everything!

Stopping my kitten from going under the bed.

I’ve already clipped his claws but they’re still snagging on things :/ I do play with him every day – I get him running around with one of those teaser toys with a fish on the end. He’s got loads of balls and things that make a noise! He doesn’t have a spare moment during the day ^^ He definitely gets all my attention when he’s doing that, that’s for sure! Do those deterrent sprays actually work? Should I spray it on the bed base or on the floor? Does it leave any stains? Sorry for all the questions! :)

That's often the problem. Just trim the tips of their claws.

Sorry, but that’s all I could find online; they recommend doing that, especially on this site: http://wamiz.com/chats/conseil/comment-punir-son-chaton-1596.html! I’m not just making up these punishments, I’m just a bit out of my depth with him. I’ve never harmed my pets! I’ve had kittens before and they’ve never done this to me!!

I’m not the type to just let my cats scratch anything and everything! Everyone has their own way of doing things at home. I was just looking for some help with a solution.

To answer that, it does bother me that he’s scratching my bed because I don’t want to lose a deposit of around £300! The bed is brand new and it belongs to my landlords who live right downstairs. I’m doing the best I can for him.

As for punishments, if anyone has another way of telling him ‘NO’, please let me know, because he just doesn’t understand ‘NO’—he couldn’t care less!

Regarding the bed, it’s a good idea, but it’s brand new and having to buy a bed because of a cat problem really hits the pocket hard 😔

Gosh, you’re really going a bit far with what you’re saying about your kitten 😔

Erm, your punishments are brutal, mean and... horrible 😯!

The best way to discipline them is still a firm "NO", but there’s no need to be nasty about it 😒

To answer your question, a cat is independent; they go wherever they feel like, wherever they want. You can't really stop them from going to certain places.

And what I don't understand is, why is it such an issue if your cat goes under the bed? 🤪
