Probiotics and Smecta?

Hi again everyone!!!

So, I’ve read on various sites and forums that you can give probiotics (like Ultra-levure) to a kitten with soft stools? I’d really like to know if I can or not?

Personally, I can see both sides... On the one hand, it’s a natural product and isn't dangerous. On the other hand, it’s technically intended for humans...

I’ve also heard that you can give them Smecta... Since it’s basically a natural product and made for babies... Some people have mentioned how effective these products are, but I’m still a bit sceptical...

Thanks

Hi everyone, I’m bumping my thread because their stools have gone soft again...

Despite the probiotics, which worked for about three days, their poo is back to being soft even with the supplements, so I’ve stopped giving it to them...

My vet told me it was definitely due to the change in dry food, no doubt about that.

I’m not really sure what to do; they’re doing brilliantly, playing all day long and sleeping well—basically no change in behaviour, and no blood in their stools either.

I must admit I’m at a bit of a loss. I’m still in the middle of transitioning their food, and I’m wondering if it’s actually the mix of the two that’s giving them soft stools.

Does anyone have any advice or have you been through something similar?

Thanks for your replies, I hope they’ll help me out.

Hi everyone, just wanted to give you an update. My cats are doing much better, and their stools are finally starting to firm up :-) I'm really pleased with the yeast probiotics, I’d definitely recommend them! A huge thank you to Sevv for all the advice!

Right, I've bought the probiotic capsules.

I'm not sure about the dosage, though?

Is it one capsule a day, or two?

    Thanks for your help! ^^

It’s been about a week now. Well, I weighed out the rest of the Purina One and mixed in the same amount of Orijen. But now, one or both of my cats have got soft stools :-/. I think it’s normal, but I’m hoping that if I give some probiotics to the one who hasn't got an upset stomach, there won't be any problems :-/

I'm actually feeding them Orijen? I don't really get your reply then ^^

I swapped Purina One for Orijen. It's actually the switch that's given them soft stools.

I’ve just got a quick question... I’m not really sure if they’ve both got soft stools or if it’s just one of them :-S. Can I still give them both some probiotics anyway?

Okay, so we'll stick with the wet food then. I'll go and buy some probiotics tomorrow and mix some into their wet food.
