Probiotics and Smecta?

Hi again everyone!!!

So, I’ve read on various sites and forums that you can give probiotics (like Ultra-levure) to a kitten with soft stools? I’d really like to know if I can or not?

Personally, I can see both sides... On the one hand, it’s a natural product and isn't dangerous. On the other hand, it’s technically intended for humans...

I’ve also heard that you can give them Smecta... Since it’s basically a natural product and made for babies... Some people have mentioned how effective these products are, but I’m still a bit sceptical...

Thanks

Hi Mymiebh, thanks for your reply, but it’s all sorted now—my cat doesn't have diarrhoea anymore.

Diarrhoea is often a sign of stress and an emotional reaction in our feline friends. After being rehomed, it’s not unusual for a kitty to suffer from a sensitive tummy. Put three drops of Bach Flower Remedies—either "Rescue Remedy" or Gentian—into their water bowl, and make sure to change the water completely every day (do this for a fortnight to a month). Give them plenty of affection to build their trust; a happy cat is a healthy cat. And don't forget, an osteopathy session can be really effective for managing digestive upsets.

Yes, you're right, it’s only been a week, but I’m so worried, which is why I’m getting a bit impatient.

I’m going to try adding just a tiny bit more Orijen to see if it’s the Purina One that’s causing the diarrhoea.

    Thanks very much.

Evening again everyone, I’ve got something else to ask. Are there any other high-quality dry foods out there that would look after my cats' digestive systems? They’re both very sensitive. I think Orijen is a really good brand, maybe even the best, but seeing how my cats are reacting, I can’t help but think they might be struggling to digest it. I’ve really done it this time, though – I’m stuck with a massive 28lb bag of Orijen!

Well, I didn't manage to find any FortiFlora :-/ Anyway, I went to see my vet and he said it's probably due to the difference in quality between the two types of dry food (of course, he tried to push his Hill's range on me again). So, I’m going to stick with the transition; I also popped into a pet shop, and the assistant there told me that normally there shouldn't be any diarrhoea with brands like Orijen, so she also advised me to keep going with the transition ^^ Anyway, thanks anyway Sevv for your advice, I just have a quick question: which Orijen variety is best, fish or chicken? Thanks everyone!!

So can you definitely find this at the chemist? Are there different types? For about 2.2 lbs, for example?
