Hi Cam,
Of course a neutered cat can still go missing. You get some that are real roamers and others that are total homebodies.
However, he’s only 18 months old and it’s currently mating season for all the unneutered cats out there.
Does he eat dry food? Have you tried looking for him late at night or early in the morning (they usually sleep during the day) while shaking a box of dry food?
You should search up to 500 metres from your house as the crow flies.
Have you driven around the local roads?
Have you put up posters? Called the vets and animal rescues? Spoken to the neighbours?
He might also have been in a scrap with a tomcat and be injured – have you checked all the potential hiding spots around your place and the neighbours’?
Whereabouts are you? In the countryside or in town?
Don’t lose heart; I had one that used to wander off. I once spent 8 days calling for him morning and night, and he eventually turned up with an eye injury. He lived until he was 18.
