Name for a rescue kitten

Hi everyone,

So, I'm about to take in a little kitten that was rescued over the summer, but the person who found him has already asked me to pick a name.

He was part of a litter found in a hay rack, having had a very narrow escape (the mum had left them there, and they were seconds away from being trampled by cows or starving to death).

I'm looking for a name, ideally something foreign-sounding, that would suit him.

I came across 'Tchoda', for instance, which means 'miracle' in Hungarian, but I'm not 100% convinced, so I'm looking for other ideas if there are any bilingual folks on here x)

Thanks!

We’d better not let things slide or he’ll end up being called something like Tiddles – he’d be proper mortified in front of his mates 👌

Oops, I’ve gone and made myself a year older, my apologies! So, let's rewind: Ratelier! No? Fair enough! I quite like place names too, especially African or Russian ones... Rasputin (hide your ladies!) Ruben I called one of my little moggies Rodeo; it suited him down to the ground, as he was always jumping on his big brother's back.

It’s the year of the ‘R’ names, ladies 😌. That being said, Sputnik is such a cute name! We’re also struggling to find a name for our new fur baby; we might not bother following the naming protocol in the end, it’s far too much of a headache! Especially as my husband is insisting on a name after a place, a river, a continent or something like that. We had Odessa, which was a little geopolitical nod for a Russian cross born in 2018. Apart from Riga for the new arrival (my husband isn’t keen, but I love it!!), I’m completely stumped :( Reykjavik? Hmm, I'm not so sure...

Sputnik is a cute name, but watch out – they often end up living up to their names! He might well end up blasting off, and cats are basically built on springs as it is 😁

Thanks so much, I’ll have a proper look through the list!

‘Saved from the hay rack’, that’s a brilliant idea 😂

Otherwise, I had the name Sputnik in mind, which I already thought was really cute for my future cat (it’s the name of the first satellites sent into space).

    It’s an ‘S’ year, so how about ‘Saved-from-the-Scrapheap’! 😁

    Only joking...

    In Japanese:

    Seizon "survival"

    Yuki "courage, bravery"

    Rakki, "lucky"

    Fumetsu "immortal"

    Shori "triumph"

    Karui "light"

    Aisuru "love"

Rakku "rack" (funnily enough, it sounds like lucky!) :P

    In Russian:

    Slava "glory"

    Svet "light"

    Stellazh "rack"

    In Nepali:

    Amara "immortal"

    Ryaka "rack"

    In Hungarian:

    Fény: "light"

We named one of my cats Origami; I love the name, and it was soon shortened to "Ori". My current cat is called Odessa, which quickly became Odie.

Evening! I quite like the names Lazare or Lazarus. In the Bible, he was resurrected; he’s really come back from the brink, just like your little one.
