My cat is constantly in heat!

I’ve taken in a little female cat. She was living rough, skinny and in a right state, so I brought her home. I’ve never had a cat before (due to my allergies) but I can’t stand seeing abandoned animals left to fend for themselves... So we took her to the vet anyway for a check-up and some advice, but no one mentioned her going into heat or 'calling'...

She’s lovely, but the trouble is she’s in heat every other week and it’s really draining, I don’t know what to do anymore. We want to get her spayed but we haven't got the funds for it just yet, even though we're planning to get it done. I wanted to know if there was any way to calm her down because it’s becoming almost unbearable. We’ve had her for 3 months, and it’s all day long; she yowls, rubs against everything (even the dog, even though she normally avoids him or has a go at him) and it’s non-stop, I’m at my wits' end! Please tell me you can help! =) Thanks

It's absolutely vital that you get this little girl spayed as soon as possible. If you don't, she’ll lose weight very quickly, but that isn’t even the worst part. Having constant heat cycles puts her at risk of metritis or pyometra, both of which are life-threatening. So, book an appointment with the vet quickly and ask if you can pay in instalments; they shouldn't refuse you. If they do, go and see another one.
