My cat is constantly in heat!

I’ve taken in a little female cat. She was living rough, skinny and in a right state, so I brought her home. I’ve never had a cat before (due to my allergies) but I can’t stand seeing abandoned animals left to fend for themselves... So we took her to the vet anyway for a check-up and some advice, but no one mentioned her going into heat or 'calling'...

She’s lovely, but the trouble is she’s in heat every other week and it’s really draining, I don’t know what to do anymore. We want to get her spayed but we haven't got the funds for it just yet, even though we're planning to get it done. I wanted to know if there was any way to calm her down because it’s becoming almost unbearable. We’ve had her for 3 months, and it’s all day long; she yowls, rubs against everything (even the dog, even though she normally avoids him or has a go at him) and it’s non-stop, I’m at my wits' end! Please tell me you can help! =) Thanks

She’s also got a kink in her tail, but the vet told us it could be from birth as it doesn’t seem to bother her =)

See, told you joining the forum was a good idea :)

And when you’ve got a moment, could you post a photo of your kitty?

Okay, point taken about the pill, especially as it had been recommended to me (phew, glad I didn't go through with it). As for the dry food, I'll keep giving her her usual as well as her wet food. I was wondering why she was eating so much without putting on any weight, but I understand much better now.

OK, thanks for the advice. I'm going to do what's best for their health =)

Anyway, whatever you do, NEVER give her the pill (not even once!) because the pill for cats is absolute CRAP! (Excuse my blunt language, but I need to be this direct so you understand that the pill for cats is extremely dangerous); it also causes metritis, pyometra and leads to cancers too.

And you'll see, once she's been spayed, your little girl will put on some weight, and it'll do her some good.

At that point, definitely don't restrict her food and don't put her on 'light' dry food or even food for neutered cats, for that matter.

It's only if you really feel like she's starting to pile on the pounds that you should put her on dry food for neutered cats.

Yes, getting her spayed is vital for her health. Plus, if you ask your vet about paying in instalments when you book the appointment, they can’t really refuse you. It’s only if you leave it until the last minute once the surgery is already done that it becomes an issue.

Ah right, I see. I understand better now why she’s really not very big. Anyway, thanks for the info. To be honest, as I’ve never had a cat before, I didn’t know what it was... I’ll get it sorted then =) thanks all =)
