Hi there,
Cats are naturally very clean animals and usually take great care of their own grooming. Because of this, it’s quite unusual for a cat to have a dirty bottom.
First of all, it’s worth looking at the consistency of their stools. Do they have diarrhoea? If so, how long has this been happening? Have you noticed anything out of the ordinary in their poo (such as fibres, lumps, blood, etc.)? If you have, I’d recommend getting them checked out by a vet fairly soon.
It’s also worth double-checking their litter tray to see if it’s clean enough. If it’s looking a bit soiled, you might need to scoop it more often or perhaps even try switching to a different type of cat litter.
All the best,
Manon
Thanks so much, no, his poo is pretty normal, nothing to report there... and I buy him good quality dry food anyway...
At the moment it’s really just a few little traces of dry poo, to be honest... 🙁
And with mine, unless they've got diarrhoea, their bottom is always clean...
It might depend on the consistency of his poo... maybe a bit on the soft side? Have you checked? Some cats just aren't as tidy as others; usually, they’d groom themselves to stay clean...
If you’re worried, you could always wear gloves to give him a clean – though I’m not sure he’ll be a fan! And for cleaning out his litter tray too...
