Stuck poo...

Hi everyone,

For several weeks now, my little Kira has had some poo stuck to her bottom...

I thought it would come off by itself, either through her cleaning herself or being pushed off by her next bowel movement! But not at all.

So today, we tried to remove it using some cotton wool and water, and then even tried gently pulling it with tweezers, but it just won't budge.

My cat is short-haired and the poo isn't stuck to her fur, it's actually stuck to her anus.

I'm at a loss as to how to get it off!

Thanks in advance,

    Thanks for your replies!

I’ll make sure to try your tips if it ever happens again....

In the end, I managed to loosen it all by dabbing at it with some cotton wool and water, and a few days later it just fell off on its own!

I’m so glad to finally see my kitty’s bum all clean again 😁

Are you sure she hasn't swallowed something like a bit of string, an elastic band or anything of that sort? If that is the case, whatever you do, don't pull it. Does she have any signs of constipation or a loss of appetite? A bit of poo wouldn't just stay stuck there for SEVERAL weeks on its own... the cat would have got rid of it herself! Or it would've just fallen off naturally as her fur grew...

Using some cotton wool soaked in oil will help loosen it much better than water. You can give the poo a good soak, let it sit for a bit, and then try to wipe it off later with another piece of oil-soaked cotton wool.

Use some cotton wool with warm water and black soap. Leave it to soak for a few minutes, then gently wipe it away.

Yes, I’m sure it’s poo because when we tried to remove it, the cotton wool turned brown and the smell was definitely there. I did try soaking the cotton wool with water, but I had no luck...

I’ll give it another go with some Vaseline then...

Hi there, Are you sure it’s definitely a bit of poo? If you're in any doubt, don’t pull at it... you might end up hurting her and you might need to take her to see a vet. In the meantime, you could try soaking the "poo" with some cotton wool and plenty of water, leaving it there for a bit, and maybe apply some sweet almond oil or even some Vaseline to soften it up. It won't hurt her, at any rate...
