There's no choice, you have to put a stop to this behaviour, as it's going to end up hurting her.
(It's not easy to curb because the cat will keep coming back again and again, and the dog won't understand what she's done wrong; you'll need to keep them apart until the habit is broken.)
My cat suckled from my dog for six months (6 months!!!)... He was very young, she was having a phantom pregnancy, and they were both happy with the arrangement!
The vet told me: "You shouldn't let them do that!"
I separated them after trying peppermint ointment and the anti-lactation cream he'd given me to put on her teats.
The cat was mewing behind the door, and the dog was crying on the other side...
In the end, I let Mother Nature take her course. They had a very strong bond during the six years my dog was alive... When she passed away, he really struggled to get over it; she was his adoptive Mum... So just let it be – your kitten has found a wonderful source of love and warmth!
Thanks for the update.
Hi everyone,
Just an update: Titou isn't nursing from my dog anymore. I took her to the vet about her teats, and she gave me a cream to apply to them. Things are much better now; they aren't swollen anymore, although they’re still a bit brown.
Thanks everyone for your advice! :)
