My cat's swallowed some tape

I tend to worry about every little thing when it comes to Fresnel, who's 8 months old. She got into quite a bit of mischief last night and a piece of the tape holding up some of my decorations has vanished. I'm not certain she swallowed it, but I can't find it anywhere and she has a habit of eating anything she comes across. It's a bit of professional, quite thick tape used on film sets (called gaffer tape); the piece was about 2mm by 1.5cm.

She's bright and alert, zooming around and asking for cuddles. She's meowing quite a bit, but she does that constantly whenever she feels like I'm not paying enough attention to her.

Am I right to be worried?

Yeah, it was perfectly clean. I think you’re right, she’d stashed it away. I’d checked her fur but it wasn't there, so she must have brought it from somewhere. I found it right next to her on my bed. I’m absolutely certain it wasn’t there a minute ago!

It’s a relief and I’ll know what to do in future if she actually swallows any Sellotape, but I’ll make sure the situation doesn't come up again.

    Thanks for your replies! :)

No, if she’s already brought it back up, there’s likely no internal damage. But if she’d actually swallowed it and then sicked it up, you would’ve found some bile with it too. If it was spotless, she probably just stashed it somewhere (the amount of times I’ve hunted everywhere for a missing toy only for it to magically reappear days later... where on earth was the thing? :) )

Don’t worry, there are plenty of us mother hens on here ;)

Yeah, I’m always on my guard now since she’s started devouring every bit of paper she can find (especially the important stuff). I’ve put everything out of reach and I’m careful not to leave anything lying around. I never thought she’d end up eating things off my walls; I’m going to have to pet-proof my flat all over again.

She’s just had a massive aggressive outburst, my hands and legs really took a beating, and she’s never done anything like that before. I stepped away and 30 seconds later, I found that bit of gaffer tape right next to her. I don’t know if she’s brought it back up, but I’ll keep keeping an eye on her just in case.

If she really did swallow it and then sicked it back up, could it have caused any damage to her stomach? Given what time I went to bed, it’s definitely been less than 10 hours.

I’m such a mother hen with this little creature, it’s crazy how much they can make you worry, just like children! :)

Blimey @P'titefleur, you must have been scared out of your wits! Honestly, you'd think they were starving, the way they scoff everything in sight! I call Félia my little plastic-addict, and baby Harley is obsessed with kitchen roll and tissues. If you ever need any confetti, don't bother buying any – just put an order in with my little rascal and she’ll have a whole kitchen roll shredded in less than an hour! Lol

Right... I'm tidying everything away from now on, even if it's only for two minutes....

If she hasn't had a poo for a few days... get her to the vet... Just over a year ago, my Voyou managed to swallow a needle and 20cm of thread in just a few minutes. I was in the middle of some sewing when the doorbell rang... I went to see who it was, but first I stuck the needle and thread into a little pin cushion I use... When I came back, I looked everywhere for my needle, then I saw Voyou gagging and pawing at his cheek... it clicked straight away... Emergency vet at 6pm... X-ray... straight into surgery... stayed in overnight... Anyway, it all ended well... but we were terrified, and the vet was too... We were lucky that Voyou swallowed the thread first, so the needle went in eye-first... lol... As a keepsake, I’ve got a great X-ray of my furbaby's stomach where you can see the needle and thread plain as day... it really sends shivers down your spine... "my poor little Youyou."

I’m with Sevv on this one, keep a very close eye on them. Watch their poo as well; if you see the thing in there, it’ll put your mind at rest.
