My cat is limping

Hi everyone,

My cat has been limping for two weeks now. After a few days, I took her to the vet, who didn't find any cuts or broken bones; she was quite happy to let the vet handle the paw. The vet gave her a cortisone and anti-inflammatory injection, thinking it was arthritis. However, two days later she is limping even more and I have noticed that the front paw she is limping on seems to be flattening out much more than the left one. It is as if she has no tendons left or something...

The vet isn't sure what it is over the phone and has suggested X-rays. I am happy to go ahead with them, even though they will cost a fair bit.

Has anyone else had this happen with their cats? I am not sure what to do—should I massage the paw or something else? Thanks for your help.

She doesn’t seem to be in pain; she is eating and playing, but she is moving less and sleeping more...

The same thing happened to me and the vet helped me out, but if you want a tip, try giving her a massage. If you notice her licking her paw a lot, it means she’s in pain, but give her a rub and she’ll feel much better. Just remember, you mustn’t massage her too hard! 😁

This happened to me—one evening I went into a bedroom in the dark and my kitten followed me in without me seeing him. As I was leaving, I trod right on him and I can’t tell you the yelp he let out; I had the absolute fright of my life, especially when I saw him limping. I frantically searched for an emergency vet and begged them to wait for me as it was an absolute emergency. Once he’d checked him over, he told me that cats aren't as fragile as we think and that the limping would stop within 24 hours. And it’s true that he recovered really quickly, but I’m the one who hasn't quite got over it! Now I always walk around watching my step and looking at the floor.

Mine was limping too, but she’d had a scrap with another cat. A few tablets for a couple of days and she was right as rain! How old is she? It might just be old age, but otherwise, keep in touch with the vet ;)
