Meowing before pooing

Hi everyone,

I'm starting a new thread about something that's really worrying me.

My 2-year-old cat, who I adopted 15 months ago, meows a lot before she poos. She's always done this since we got her. We've mentioned this issue to our vet several times, but she investigated the urinary tract (urine tests, blood work... everything was fine), changed our worming treatment, tried expressing the anal glands (which were completely empty, so no problems there), and sold us a laxative paste to give her because she only goes once a day (sometimes twice, like today, but that's rare) and always at roughly the same time.

Her stools are well-formed—not dry, not too big, and no diarrhoea. No visible worms or blood either. She drinks plenty of water. We worm her every three months.

The laxative paste and boiled courgettes haven't changed anything; she still only poos once a day. Mind you, all these tests are costing me a small fortune, and I find it odd that they're looking for a urinary disorder when my cat only meows when she's about to defecate... Maybe I should get a second opinion from another vet?

Her bottom looks a bit irritated and swollen sometimes. Are there any creams to soothe her after she's been, or to apply beforehand to help with the pain? To be honest, I'm not even sure if it is pain; I've heard that some cats just have this ritual of meowing before or after they go...

That’s exactly it. Lots of loud meowing beforehand, and then a total mad half-hour. These creatures have no shame...

Haha! After Rangoun arrived, she was a bit more reserved! But she’s well and truly over that now – she gives us a heads-up before she does anything, and then she goes absolutely bonkers! I adore this girl 😍 a kitten for life!

My cat meows before going to the litter tray too.

Maybe it’s to warn us: "Heads up, nobody come in, the loo is occupied!!!!" 😄

That’s it! Exactly! She was originally ginger. Right up until she started boozing...

And since she’s had a drink, she’s feeling a bit ‘grey’! (Right, I’ll get my coat...).

😁 I was referring to the 'barrel' our little lady is posing on 😉 I love her eyes!!! Oh, blimey, sorry! I should have picked up on that hint straight away! Grr. She’s drunk all the cider in the keg, and she’s had terrible wind ever since! She’s sleeping in her barrel now – we won’t have her in the bedroom! 😁

Oh yes, she drinks regularly. Because her tongue isn't rough, she spends absolutely aaaages at her water bowl but barely drinks a thing!

As a result, she’s not reaching the 120ml minimum she’s supposed to be getting, so I’ve started adding some wet food to her diet (pouches in gravy). Like lots of cats, she just laps up all the gravy and leaves the chunks at the bottom of the bowl. Still, it helps get some extra fluid into her. I give her half a pouch in the evening.

She’s not eating anymore, is she drinking? ????

Through a straw or from a glass to forget the Vaseline 😉
