I've just spotted that my cat has a skin problem. I saw a small scab a few days ago which I put down to a minor injury, but it's spreading and doesn't look like that at all anymore. Aside from that, she seems fine in herself, and the rest of her coat is lovely and shiny (no dandruff).
Can anyone tell me what this might be? Ringworm? Eczema?
Please help, I'm so worried!!!
Thanks

My cat had the same symptoms; after a trip to the vet, it turned out to be FAD (Flea Allergy Dermatitis).
It only takes one single flea to trigger the allergy, and their licking doesn't help at all, causing hair loss and making the sores even worse...
He had an injection plus a tablet to stop him from licking and scratching for a month. By the third day, his wounds had started to heal. Of course, you also need to treat him for parasites to tackle the root of the problem.
Hope that helps!
Hi,
Cats can suffer from many different skin conditions with a wide range of causes. In your case, I’d recommend taking your cat to the vet so they can carry out some further tests, especially as the scabs are spreading quickly. It’s definitely best to get the issue sorted as soon as possible.
Best regards,
Vincent
My cat has the exact same thing! I know it’s been a while, but I’m replying anyway for anyone looking this up in the future. I went to the vet, and they told me I had to rule out the possibilities one by one. So we started by giving him a parasite treatment to rule that out. It didn't stop, so now I'm trying to rule out an allergy to the litter; I’ve switched to crystal litter to either confirm or rule out a litter allergy. You have to do this for about 8 weeks and if the patches continue, change the food (your vet will recommend a brand of food designed for cats with allergies) and again, do this for 8 weeks. It's really important to only make one change at a time to find the source of the problem!! After that, if the patches are still appearing, go back to see your vet—it might be eczema or another skin condition.
It could be ringworm in that case. You could either keep your distance from your cat, as ringworm clears up on its own after a few months, or just head straight to the vet!
I realise that, but as it’s a stray I’d like to get an idea of what the problem is (whether it’s contagious or not) and also, depending on the answer, what the cost is likely to be for me...
