A bit out of sorts after a scrap

Hi everyone!

This morning our little Apple (nearly 4 years old, spayed) went out for her usual hunt. Around 8:50 am she came back with some tiny scratches, mostly on her head, which makes us think she's been in a scrap (she's very territorial and it does happen sometimes), but she seems really out of sorts and lethargic. She went to hide and sleep in some clothes and didn't get up until about 2 pm. She's eaten and has been asking for fusses, so on the face of it, she seems okay, and the wounds have stopped bleeding. However, she still seems really tired and poorly, almost like she's been sedated. Is this normal? Thanks!

Look, it’s the same with her cat – her behaviour has changed and she’s worried, so off to the vet. It’s simple, effective, and gives you peace of mind.

A forum isn’t going to be the one to treat her.

Yes Patounes, I understand given what you went through; your reaction is completely understandable.

Mind you, if it’s a rat... a rat carries all sorts of nasties.

If it’s a rat, it’s even more serious.

    See a vet straight away.

She stayed in with us last night and didn't go out until this morning. My dad thinks she might have got into a fight with a rat...

Yes, better safe than sorry... mind you, if she’s been getting into scraps all night, she’ll be worn out. Just keep an eye on her (hi patounes)

I don’t wait for things to get worse; a change in our pets' behaviour should be a red flag, and we need to act fast before things get complicated.

    Hiya Bella 😉

Yes, better safe than sorry... then again, if she’s been a proper little scrapper all night, it’s exhausting work. Just keep an eye on her (hi to the paws).

    Hi there,

No, that’s not normal. I went through the exact same thing with my cat about a month ago.

I couldn't see anything physically wrong with her; it was just her behaviour that had changed.

I didn't hang about – I headed straight to the emergency vet.

And I was right not to wait.

She’d been in a scrap with some other cats, and the vet managed to find bite marks that were well hidden under her fur.

Anyway, she ended up having an antibiotic jab and some painkillers.

She was feeling much better the next day.

Don’t delay; an infection can set in very quickly, and the longer you wait, the harder it is to get our pets sorted.

If your cat isn’t feeling themselves, it’s a sign that it’s serious.

Get to the vet as soon as possible.
