Spaying – my kitten has started pulling her dressing off!

Hi everyone!

I’ve got a little 6-month-old kitten who was spayed during the day on Wednesday. She has a dressing on, but since yesterday or this morning, she’s started tearing it off... what should I do? Especially as part of the incision is starting to show...

She’s had stitches (I know there are other ways of "sewing them up").

My parents and I wanted to just take the dressing off as it’s not doing much now, but we’re worried about doing the wrong thing... The vet nurse said that cats usually pull their bandages off after three days, but she didn't really say if that was okay or what we should actually do...

    Hi there,

My cat managed to get her bandage off herself within a week and it had already healed up nicely. It’s perfectly normal, so there’s no need to worry.

Hi! To stop my cat from messing with her dressing, I put a thick ski sock around her middle (not too tight, but not too loose either).

My cat’s just had an operation and she’s wearing a cone. She’s supposed to keep it on for 10 days, but she keeps managing to rip her dressing off. She has to keep it on until Monday—what can I do to stop her messing with it? It was quite major surgery on her tummy.

The scar is barely visible now! There's just a tiny scab left, but it's quite small! There we go :)

Blimey, there’ve been a lot of replies! x)

Anyway, everything’s fine; the vet took her stitches out on Wednesday. The scar is a bit on the large side but it’s not infected or anything. Mind you, she’s such a tiny, slim little thing that it probably just stands out more :)

She had antibiotics and painkillers after the op.

Normally, an antibiotic injection is given as standard after this type of operation to prevent any potential infections.
