I have a quick question: can you use saline solution for a cat's eyes? I think so, but I'd rather check just in case.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
Marie.

Hi, I’m having a bit of a problem with my cat. She’s 2 years old and this is the 4th or 5th time she’s had some brown gunk in the corner of one eye. It didn’t seem like anything out of the ordinary at first, but today while I was cleaning her eye, I noticed the skin looks quite raw, although there’s no actual cut. I’d love some advice before I panic and head to the vet. (Just to clarify, she’s an indoor cat and her vaccinations are all up to date.)
It’s clear your kitten has cat flu. It can be fatal if it isn’t treated, and saline solution isn’t very effective for cats; you need to get to an emergency vet immediately so they can provide the proper care.
Why are you asking for people to email you?! Unless you’re a massive troll, I don’t see the point.
Hi everyone, my 2-month-old kitten has eyes that are a bit red and sticky. I wanted to know if it could be conjunctivitis or something else? The lady who had him before was just cleaning them with water and cotton wool, but they’re still getting stuck together and he’s sneezing too. What should I do? I’ve got some saline solution, is that okay to use to clean them? Thanks, please email me at bernardoceane43@gmail
Yes, it’s definitely good to know. I knew about using saline, but I didn't know that about water.
Actually, one time my little rescue had a bit of eye gunk and I just wiped it away like that because it wasn't stuck!! Thanks, I've learned my lesson about water now!!
Such a wonderful site, so full of information.
Thank you all for being here.
Laurence and her Noah’s Ark are heading off to bed now. Have a lovely evening and a peaceful night, everyone!
Laurence, some cats are prone to getting little crusties in the corners of their eyes; I’ve got two just like that. Never use water, obviously—only ever use saline on some gauze or a lint-free cotton pad.
No, of course, if I noticed any kind of issue, I’d head to the vet because saline doesn't actually cure anything. :) But it’s best to avoid using water as it’s irritating. A lot of people make that mistake.
Thanks again!
Thanks for your replies. If I’m looking to use some for my cats, it’s just to clean up those little bits of ‘eye gunk’ they get in the corners of their eyes. Other than that, they don’t have any particular issues.
