My cat's paw is swollen

Hi everyone,

I’m posting this because I’ve just noticed that my cat's paw is swollen! I only just spotted it while we were playing; I hadn’t noticed anything unusual before that...

I've had a feel and he doesn't really react, he isn't limping, and he’s eating, drinking and playing as usual. I’m not sure if I should go to the emergency vet or if it can wait until tomorrow... I don’t want to bother an out-of-hours vet for nothing, although I don't suppose it would be swollen for no reason.

I’ve included a photo:

I’m not really sure what to do right now :(

Yeah, that’s what I’m going to do. Can an insect bite or a wasp sting or whatever cause swelling without any "pain"?

Wait the night out and then see the vet tomorrow.

He goes outside but only under supervision and on a lead in my garden/patio, so there's no way it's a cat bite. I've had a look and it isn't bleeding, and I can't see any wounds or anything stuck in there, but it's so swollen that I can't get a proper look at everything. I'm going to try and check again... It's even more obvious from underneath...

    Does your cat go outside?

If so, it’s probably a cat bite. Try to find the puncture wound.

Wait until tomorrow; he’s not in any immediate danger. It looks properly swollen, though! I hope nothing’s broken. My Hope often gets her claws caught; it sometimes swells up a bit when she tugs at them, but it usually clears up over the next few days.
