My cat's paw is swollen

Hi everyone,

I’m posting this because I’ve just noticed that my cat's paw is swollen! I only just spotted it while we were playing; I hadn’t noticed anything unusual before that...

I've had a feel and he doesn't really react, he isn't limping, and he’s eating, drinking and playing as usual. I’m not sure if I should go to the emergency vet or if it can wait until tomorrow... I don’t want to bother an out-of-hours vet for nothing, although I don't suppose it would be swollen for no reason.

I’ve included a photo:

I’m not really sure what to do right now :(

Watch out!!! My cat once had a paw that ballooned to three times its size and it turned out to be a phlegmon. If I’d waited any longer, it could have led to blood poisoning and that would have been that... So, if the swelling has gone down, that’s actually quite good news (probably just a sting), but if you have any doubts at all, get him to the vet straight away.

Quick update: The swelling on his paw has gone down a lot overnight; it’s still there, but not nearly as much as it was. I’ve spoken to my vet and they told me to keep an eye on how he gets on. If his behaviour changes at all (like if he stops eating or drinking etc.), I’ll take him straight in!

    Poor kitty

It could be an insect bite
