Hi there,

My kitten is 6 months old and for a few days now I've noticed he's trying to mate with my arm. He bites my hand really hard... meows softly... clutches my arm with all four paws and gets quite excited... I push him away... but I'd really like him to grow out of this bad habit!!! I just don't know... this behaviour is leaving me a bit baffled, to be honest.

Have any of you experienced this with one of your own cats?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Right, I've just called the vet and he told me it'd be better to wait four days after his jab because he’s quite a sensitive kitten, thanks.

He also mentioned that the operation will cost about £85.

Sorry for the typos, I was typing without looking at the screen lol, my cat Angèle was right in front of me haha! Go on Sezen, give the vet a quick ring and you’ll know what to do! Laurence and her Noah’s Ark

    Sezen,

Look, I'm not a vet, so I don't want to give you the wrong advice. I think you should give your vet a quick ring right now and ask them. I’ve definitely got plenty of experience with cats, mainly ferals and my own, but really only your vet can give you an answer on this. Give them a call straight away—it doesn’t cost anything to ask. It’s nearly 6 pm, so they’ll still be open. Tell them exactly what you just told us: that he only finished his treatment for feline panleukopenia a week ago, that he’s due for his vaccinations, his age, etc. Call your vet; they’re the only one who can properly advise you on this!

    Keep us posted.

Is it dangerous for him? If you’re talking about the neutering, then no, of course it’s not dangerous, but like I said, call your vet and explain everything you’ve written here!

laurencence, I’m planning on getting him vaccinated this Saturday (I haven’t had him done sooner because he’s been poorly, plus it’s only been a week since he finished his treatment for feline enteritis). Should I wait a bit longer?

    Is it safe for him?

Marjo, He’s asking how much your vet charges to see if there’s a big difference compared to here? I can't quite remember, but eight years ago it wasn't exactly cheap! I’d imagine it must be around £70 or £80 now, but I’m not entirely sure. It’s just to see if the price depends on the specific clinic or the county! – Laurence and her Noah's Ark

    Pitoune lol

Well yeah, exactly! Not much else to do, is there? lol

Marjo, have you booked an appointment for yours then, since you’ve seen your vet?

Marjo, I think you’re having the same problem—I saw you asking on the other thread whether you should have him neutered. I’ve just replied to you there. This is also what your cat might end up doing; both of you really need to get your cats neutered as they’re pretty much the same age!! What is there to ask your vet, Marjo? Lol! He’ll just say he's looking for a mate and simply needs to be neutered!! Laurence and her Noah’s Ark

You can probably guess what I’m going to say—it’s time for him to be neutered as he’s definitely old enough now! It starts like this, but then he’ll start spraying the walls and so on... and as I’ve just mentioned in another post, he’s likely to bolt if he scents a female in heat, so there’s a risk of mating! That also means a risk of diseases like FIV (feline AIDS) etc., and especially fights with other males. If he’s not used to being outdoors, there are plenty of other risks too. There’s really no need to feel awkward about mentioning it to the vet; I don’t see why you would! On the contrary, you should tell them and get him booked in to be neutered pretty quickly!

He’ll be 7 months old in a few weeks. It’s really embarrassing to talk to the vet about it.
